Valkyrie Elysium is a norse mythology action role playing game from the Valkyrie Profile series. Valkyrie Elysium is my first go in this series and I’m playing it on my Playstation 5. Okay let’s get it! What you mean? Let’s get to the early impressions NOW!

As I type this I finished beating Chapter 3 where you recruit Cypher, a spirit who wields a spirit bow. You play as a Valkyrie created and purposed by the All Father himself, Odin. I can’t wait to see Odin in God of War Ragnarok. Keep it professional Jason focus on Valkyrie Elysium for this article.

What I am liking most in regards to Valkyrie Elysium’s gameplay is that it’s simplistic, fun but at times repetitive. Valkyrie main hand weapons, magic and Einheijars. Einheijars are spirit extensions of Valkyrie who have their own elemental attacks and abilities. You can upgrade and use your hand weapons with the Einheijars to stun lock enemies easily.

As an action RPG the combat is cookie cutter and too easy so far. I am playing on normal. Now granted I did die once on the first boss and I am early in the campaign. I am only writing about the first three chapters here. Combat is fun but at the same time repetitive if that makes sense.

Enemies up through chapter three are borderline repetitive. Meaning once you figure out say, that firestorm wipes out a group of Cascades in Chapter 3 it’s game over. The latter goes for all enemies including Hollows, Sopps, Krakens etc.

Use Valkyrie’s correct element ability on certain enemies along with Einheijar like Eygon it’s kinda repetitive gameplay-wise. What I write comes off as negative sure but for some reason I do keep wanting to play Valkyrie Elysium. There are addicting qualities present here.

The story is good just enough to make me want to continue. Collecting Blossoms for an odd reason are fun. Sub Quests so far been weak I must say. I’m playing on Playstation 5 and it runs and looks good but irritating camera bugs are present.

Visually speaking I like the look of Valkyrie Elysium. The artsyle is unique just enough to make me want to stop and look at it’s world. Dungeons are pedantic though. Music and voice acting are very middling of the road fare.

So far Valkyrie Elysium is a okay to good game no doubt. The main issue I have is time. October 2022 starts tomorrow and my time will soon be elsewhere gaming wise. With that said I might not be able to finish and write a comprehensive review for Valkyrie Elysium.

Okay I’ll do this. Through the first three chapters going into Chapter 4 as of now I would give Valkyrie Elysium a 7/10 as it stands. If you want to watch all of the gameplay videos I made of Valkyrie Elysium check out Valkyrie Elysium Video Gallery Playlist.
