Three Best looking Video Games I Played In The First Half of 2022

I must preface this article by stating these are my top three best looking games that released this year. Cyberpunk was updated in 2022 for current gen so it fits my criteria….sorta. My list is in order of 1 to 3.

Horizon: Forbidden West – This is the best looking game I played this year so far. The Playstation 5’s flagship title (this year unless Ragnarok releases) holds the crown so far for best looking game. The crazy thing about this is that Guerilla Games recently released an update that supposedly makes the game look and run even better.

I played Horizon: Forbidden West on Playstation 5 trying both ray tracing and performance modes. Technically I have little to complain about. This game is jaw dropping visually and runs great. Makes me wonder what Guerilla Games will do with their next game graphically speaking. Oh and I also made 291 gameplay videos of this game over at Jason’s Video Games Source YT.

The Quarry – Yea yea this game maybe more FMV than video-game but shit look at those facial model animations and textures. If it wasn’t for the super glossy dead looking eyes this would be close to photo realism. We’re getting closer and closer to photo realism in videogames. Just have patience lol. I played a few hours of The Quarry on my Playstation 5.

Cyberpunk 2077 Current Gen Patch – We all know the history of the game and CDPR so let’s not go there. I am here just gushing over the visuals of this cyberpunk themed open world video-game for this article. I first played Cyberpunk 2077 on my PC (2080 Super) on release day. I must say the game looked just as good while playing it on my Xbox Series X after the current gen patch.

Okay okay the PC still looked better because of all those extra options and graphical tweaks. I haven’t played the PC version this year for what that’s worth. On a technical note the Xbox Series X actually ran the game at a better framerate for me in 4K compared to my PC. Raytracing on the Xbox Series X wasn’t nearly as good as the PC version though. But yeah this game is still a looker for an open world game with so much going on.

Trek to Yomi (Honorable Mention) This is more art direction then shear graphical power. This game was visually stimulating to me. I felt like I was in 13 Samurai while playing this indie game.

Anyways that’s it for now thanks for reading – Jason
