Saints Row (Reboot) Hands On Impressions

Saints Row is back! I know, I know this game got some shitty reviews and some tribes labeled the new Saints Row 2022 reboot “woke”. Me? I could care less about any of that nonsense since I know how to think for myself. What I will say is, Saints Row has bugs. Lots and lots of bugs which to me so far is the only thing that’s bothering me early into it’s campaign.

Saints Row 2022 takes place in a open world fictional southwest, USA hub called Santo Ileso. Chaotic explosions, NPCs, beautiful backdrops of desert as well cityscapes litter the open world of Santo Ileso. Along with bugs. I’m talking about Saints Row presentation here. There are all level of bugs in Saints Row. You have game breaking mega bugs to the annoying emotes and weapon animation bugs and menu in-game bugs. So yea, this game has bugs and to me, is the only reason I would knock the score down early on.

Aside from the bugs Saints Row is a good to near great (more good than great) open world chaotic adventure game. I am currently playing the “Networking” mission where you unlock the Empire Table. The game opens up around this point story and gameplay-wise. The latter lets you own land to build The Saints empire throughout Santo Ileso by completing in-game missions.

People want to know “Is it really Saints Row?” To me the culture is there. You have crazy wild ass action set-pieces, characters, NPCs, humor, violent combat. You have wild weapons and customization style options galore. Matter of fact, I would say customization has been deeper than some past games. You can even collect large collectibles throughout Santa Ileso and put them as decorations on or in the Church HQ.

Gameplay is shooting, melee and driving during missions. You can customize all weapons and vehicles you steal after you take them to your garage for keeps. You have all kinds of fashion stores for clothes and firearm dealers like Friendly Fire. Side missions like “Wanted” stand out early along with @TCHA where you outrage internet people over likes and dislikes. Missions are quirky as hell and not serious for the most part. Fun is the word here. Get rid of the bugs and this game would be super fun!

Like I said earlier when you unlock the Empire Table Santo Ileso opens up creating a gameplay loop that’s alive and very busy. I am at the latter point myself and feel like this is the real Saints Row open world. As for sound and music mixing it’s not very good. I don’t know what’s wrong with the sound in this game but it’s all over the place and sucks quite frankly.

Visuals-wise I’m not impressed with Saints Row 2022. I’m playing 1440p performance mode 60 FPS which to me is the best option to play on the Xbox Series X. Graphics-wise Saints Row should look way better than what it does in 2022. Graphics and visuals are not good at all. This game is going to be eaten alive by the next GTA 6 visuals-wise my god!

Before I forget if you want to watch all of the my gameplay videos for Saints Row 2022 Reboot on this website visit the Saints Row 2022 Video Gallery Playlist. Okay, done with the interlinking. Story so far is just like every Saints Row story. Boss gets betrayed by Marshall (evil corporation). With the help of Boss’s friends Eli, Neenah and Eli they create the Saints and try and take over the city. I never really got attached to any Saints Row characters story-wise. The same apply to this game.

Early impressions is pretty simple so so far. Bugs bugs bugs! Saints Row 2022 is fun. I enjoy the open world of Santo Ileso. I enjoy the missions and it’s side content. Story is meh as well characters. To me Saints Row is about the gameplay. If I wasn’t experiencing these bugs I would call this a great game maybe. But I can’t. Just saying. Expect a full written review in the future. Thank you for reading – Jason
