Being a big fan of the Dead Space franchise as well Resident Evil and Silent Hill for that matter. Hell, I’m just a fan of good survivor horror videogames in general. Which is why I have as my number #1 top game to play this fall 2022 on the Xbox Series X is The Callisto Protocol.
Striking Distance Studios the studio behind The Callisto Protocol have veterans who also worked on the Dead Space franchise. I simply put two and two together. The Callisto Protocol uses Unreal Engine 5 which should make for some powerful jump-scares and atmospheric moments on the Xbox Series X.
I remember back when Dead Space originally launched gamers on the net would always throw around the word “visceral” when describing Dead Space. You can count on The Callisto Protocol being exactly that…visceral. The few gameplay videos on display show deep atmosphere along with a real AAA presentation to boot. I am very hyped for the fact this is a new different franchise from Dead Space with it’s own lore and gameplay opportunities for us gamers.
2. Scorn
Release Date: October 21, 2022
Mode: Single-Player
Designer: Ljubomir Peklar
Developer: Ebb Software
Composers: Billain, Wikluh Sky
Genres: Adventure Survival Horror Puzzle
Platforms: Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows
I decided to put Scorn as my second most must play game for Xbox Series X only owners this fall 2022 for a few reasons. 1. It’s unique in that theirs no dialogue in this game to help the player. 2. It’s on Gamepass.
The latter aren’t the best sells for Scorn but after watching some recent gameplay footage and learning about the ideas behind the creation of Scorn I feel it’s a must play game. Scorn isn’t your typical first person survivor horror puzzle game with hand-holding. It’s about the player figuring out the game on their own.
You learn it’s creepy cathedral-like mazes through visual cues that you remember as you play for instance. You can choose to or not use any weapons offered in the game. Scorn was designed to make the player feel kinda grossed out by it’s organic metal architecture designs. In a world where every year we are offered samey AAA games around the last few months of the year it’s good to see a game like Scorn come along.
3. High on Life
Release Date: December 13, 2022
Developer: Squanch Games
Publisher: Squanch Games
Genres: First-Person Shooter Adventure Game
Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows
High on Life sorta came out of nowhere after learning about it this past Gamescom 2022. The reason why High on Life is number three for my must play Xbox Series X game this fall is because of it’s humor, gameplay and visuals. Granted I am going by gameplay videos at this point. I love Rick and Morty. Who doesn’t? After finding out Justin Roiland is behind this game combined with watching gameplay videos I was sold.
I understand I am putting High on Life above games this fall such as Sonic Frontiers, Gotham Knights, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, A Plagues Tale: Requiem and much more. I just feel after some digging High on Life will be very good or even great. Personally, I can’t wait to play and review this game. Besides, who doesn’t like Rick and Morty like really!
