Introduction
Today I gave back (in a odd way) to the gaming community. You see, I bought this Indie game called Into The Unknown. I made a few videos of said video game for my youtube channel and followed that up by writing this review.
All I can say is that the name makes sense in regards to Into The Unknown. Truth be told I kinda already knew what I was buying. A terrible STEAM indie game developed by Universal_official. I don’t know what the intentions are behind this game. It did have one good jumpscare I suppose. So yea, this is me giving back.
Presentation
Into The unknown is a first person exploration horror focused walking sim predicated on jumpscares and instant death do overs. There are no story elements, character building or any depth in regards to Into The Unknown’s presentation for that matter.
It sorta reminds me of those demos I used to play on the Xbox 360’s indie games marketplace. Remember those? Gameplay, visuals, sound design are all extremely lacking. This video game made no sense to me which is why the name is so fitting to me.
Story
I’ll make up a story for my play time with Into The Unknown so you don’t have to play it. You basically enter a blue portal which transmogrifies you into a maze-like building with many bland looking halls with rooms housing glass vases and orange cubes.
All the while a Michael Jackson moonwalking DOOM Eternal Demon Bro is trying to rip you to shreds. The latter sounds like a story but it isn’t trust me. I had no idea what was going on or what I was suppose to accomplish.
Gameplay
Into The Unknown is a first person walking sim with zero gameplay exposition or refined mechanics. I collected orange cubes and glass vases. Maybe the orange cubes were keys? I don’t know man.
Regardless gameplay was absolutely terrible with that moonwalking DOOM Eternal demon bro hunting you down. I admit one jumpscare was designed well. Just pay attention when you pick up the orange cubes. I had a very difficult time taking this game seriously from it’s gameplay. It’s just that terrible.
Visuals/Graphics
This game looked terrible featuring copious amounts of screen tearing, bland textures and antialiasing. Into The Unknown released in 2024 mind you. Sure it was designed before than but doesn’t matter. It looks like hammered shit.
Sound/Music
The only sound I remember in this game are footsteps from the protag and the Doom Eternal monster sounding like he ripped a massive fart as he Michael Jackson moonwalks into jumpscare killing you with his massive Resident Evil Nemesis claws.
Final Thoughts and Score
I paid $4.99 on STEAM for Into The Unknown and I guess it’s worth that price point. I mean, I did laugh a few times at how terrible this game was which is worth 5 bucks I guess.
The way I look at it, I wanted to give back. The game is terrible sure but I still bought the game and gave it publicity even if it’s mostly negative publicity. That’s about it. Thanks for reading, later – Jason
