I am pleasantly surprised at Squanch Games’ improvements early on in High On Life 2. I played the original on Xbox Gamepass the day of release and thought it was a funny first person shooter adventure game with a lot of Rick & Morty DNA in regards to it’s humor.

Fast forward to February 2026 and with the recent release of High On Life 2 it’s clear early on Squanch wanted to make a better game. Yes it’s bigger since you have skateboarding traversal now to get around with. Yes skateboarding is done well gameplay-wise.

Humor is clearly a staple of High On Life 2 in case of new Gatlian gun such as Travis who you get early on. What caught me by surprise is the blend of humor with more serious tones such as Lizzie’s leading a group of outlaws who are trying to save humanity from being turned into alien drugs.

I am playing High On Life 2 on my Xbox Series X via Gamepass and am truly impressed by this game’s spectacle in regards to it’s open hub world visuals and presentation. Circuit Arcadia is one of the first areas you explore and it was fantastic to look at.

There are some stuttering during combat sequences when using Gatlians such as Sweezy, Gus and or Travis. The writing as a whole is chaotic, fun and will make you laugh. At least for me.

Much of the story has you turning in your Bounty Hunter title for “The Outlaw” title. You were once the savior of humanity now on the run with your sister to save humanity once again from aliens. Missions have you hunting down bad guys which so far been designed really good and fun to play through.

So that about does it for my, me being Jason’s early impressions for High On Life 2. It really is better than the first game even if I am only a few hours into this chaotic adventure. Later
