Here I was thinking Elden Ring was a shoe-in for GOTY. Just a minute! After watching this God of War Ragnarok State of Play story trailer below I had to pivot. Not only does Elden Ring have a true contender but could lose quite a few GOTY votes due to in part to God of War Ragnarok.
Feel free to call me crazy. In 2018 after completing God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 I thought Red Dead Redemption 2 was the better game overall. What I am trying to type here is how the trailer below shows a monumental improvement from God of War 2018 to Ragnarok.
I noticed various gameplay additions between Kratos and Atreus individually. Gameplay improvements and animations are clear in the trailer. In-game locations and settings are improved compared to God of War 2018. You might be asking me how I know. It’s simple.
I have eyes plus ask gamers who played through 2018’s God of War. I am getting Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2 levels of improvement vibes! Cast looks more rich, varied and interesting with greater cinematography shown in cutscenes.
I do wonder if God of War Ragnarok will have that “one shot” camera view like in 2018’s iteration. Another improvement are the creatures you fight. Monsters look more interesting and varied design-wise. God of War Ragnarok looks better visually sure. I however still wish it was current gen only.
Elden Ring will lose a few GOTY’s due to God of War Ragnarok. Question is how many. Thank you for reading – Jason
