Introduction: Feel free to check out my Bright Memory Infinite Video Gallery Playlist if you want to watch gameplay videos. Done plugging. I remember when the Xbox Series X originally launched Bright Memory launched alongside it as well the PC. It was hailed as a one man graphical beast first person shooter tech demo of sorts. It’s sales pitch had me curious but I held off until the updated, finished Bright Memory: Infinite released a few days ago across all consoles. Keep reading to find out what I honestly think about this first person single player shooter.
Presentation: At it’s core Bright Memory: Infinite wants to be a action set-piece first person shooter with stellar visuals. It really really tries hard. The two hour campaign is like an action anime filled with continual combat sequences and cutscenes sprinkled in. Presentation is just bad sorry. The reason it’s bad is because this game has no flesh. Infinite was suppose to have a story with extra levels but nothing meshed. Besides the visuals and shooting gameplay this game lacks quality and continuity all over.
Story: The story is about agent named Shelia who must stop an ancient God and military leader General Lin from acquiring a relic that could destroy the earth. The story is terrible as well it’s story elements were. It was all cheese and not even good type of cheese like an Uncharted has. The cutscenes were short and lacked any coherent dialogue between characters. All Shelia did was talk to a superior on the radio every time she killed soldiers. Mind you the small talk was terrible. Rinse and repeat.
Gameplay: You have a Exo-Arm, Weapons like assault rifle, shotgun etc and Light Blade. Shelia has these cool dope-ass moves. The premise is nice. First person Devil May Cry action gameplay. The problem for me was ONLY the guns and shooting worked properly. Matter of fact the shooting in Bright Memory: Infinite is it’s best gameplay element. There were plenty of bugs in the short campaign. I fell through the map a few times for no reason.
I would say shooting in on par with Call of Duty or Battlefield. I also, like the quick-step. When Shelia uses her EMP exo-arm it gets sloppy. When Shelia starts using her light blade it gets sloppy. When I switch the three main combat abilities in a bossfight it gets clunky and sloppy. Sure every move Shelia does looks anime-ish but performing everything together is clunky. Even with all the negatives the gameplay can be fun and look cool.
Visuals/Technical: The designers really tried to sell the graphics in Bright Memory: Infinite. I just beat another Indie game called Stray recently. Bright Memory: Infinite does not look near Stray visually. Bright Memory: Infinite tries to give you that wow factor by using special effects and stuff. When you just stand there doing nothing the game looks okay on Playstation 5. I had ray-tracing on too. Nothing special.
Sound/Music: Sound and music weren’t memorable or anything to write home about. English voice work was brutal, ugly and boring. Music I did not remember even in the bossfights which this game had a ton of.
Final Thoughts: Bright Memory: Infinite barely lasts two hours from start to finish. It’s linear structure is that of action combat, cutscene, stealth section, vehicle section and bossfights sprinkled in between until credits roll. I paid 19.99 for the Playstation 5 version.
This game should be priced at $9.99 new. Bright Memory isn’t a terrible game. It’s a game you better research before you spend your money on. You can replay levels and wear Shelia’s many provocative costumes. They are just trying to add replay value with her bikini outfits. Just saying. Price too high campaign way too short. At times you will look cool while playing this guns & sword style. Thanks for reading – Jason
Bright Memory: Infinite: This game sucked harder than a hoover vacuum cleaner. – Jason
